Comedians Aaron Derrick and Lukah G. have been touring comedy clubs throughout the Northwest this summer with a portion of the ticket sales from each show benefiting Communities In Schools of Auburn (CISA).
After the last tour stop on the Chuckles for Children Tour in Tacoma on Aug. 16, the comedy group gave CISA Executive Director Arlene Pierini $2,200 to help students in need with clothing, back-to-school supplies and basic essentials.
“The group believes in giving back to the community and knew the organization would use the money to help students facing the challenges of poverty,” said Aaron Derrick, headline comedian. “We found audiences were very interested in helping students in need, regardless of the community. Club goers would often add donations of their own.”
Pierini expressed gratitude for the innovative fundraising help.
“As school starts up, we are getting calls on a daily basis from school staff and parents worried about children not having even the most basic clothing, shoes and supplies,” Pierini said. “This donation will not only help this fall, but will help us continue support as the school year continues.”
