Volunteers gather for Clean Sweep, park playground work and other projects

A spring tradition, Auburn celebrated Earth Day by participating in one of the city’s largest community volunteer efforts.

Clean Sweep was a chance to work together on projects to benefit the community. The effort on Saturday focused on major cleanup and beautification efforts in public areas of the City.

Volunteer groups worked on general cleanup, landscaping, planting, weeding and other projects at various parks, trails and other environmental sites around Auburn. Service clubs, social service agencies, faith-based groups, scouting troops, businesses and individuals came together and worked side-by-side to help with the planting project.

Volunteers, City and community leaders participated in the ceremonial sweep along the Main Street sidewalks. Workers then went to assigned project areas, including Roegner Park, where a new playground was erected.

The City provided breakfast, instruction sheets for each project site and garbage bags and dumpsters for debris.
