City officials are inviting the construction community to an open house on Wednesday, May 27, to become familiar with the Auburn Community Center & Youth Center project.

General contractors, subcontractors, suppliers and others are encouraged to preview the project at 10 a.m. in the Kiwanis Room at the Parks, Recreation and Arts Administration Building, 910 Ninth St. SE.

The project team will provide an overview of the project’s scope and schedule, offer a tour and introduce team members.

Design of Auburn’s 21,000-square-foot, combined community center and youth center is nearing completion and is anticipated to go to bid next month.

The facilities, which will occupy the north end of Auburn’s Les Gove Community Campus, will emphasize spaces that will attract teens and other youth to encourage cross-generational interactions with the neighboring Senior Activity Center and gymnasium.

The project consists of renovation of the City’s existing 7,300-square-foot Parks, Recreation and Arts Administration Building into a youth center and the construction of a new 13,700-square-feet community center.

The project budget is $9 million, of which $3 million is provided by taxpayers through the Projects that Strengthen Youth and Families Program. The project construction budget is estimated to be $6 million.
