The Puyallup Fair is inviting cooks, home entertainers and quilters to take part in competition at the 2012 Puyallup Fair.

The fair runs Sept. 7-23.

• If you love to concoct delicious recipes, then aiming to win the blue ribbon at the fair should be next on your list. Food contests have just been announced, including three new Brown & Haley “ROCA” contest. Guidelines and various deadlines will streamline entering these Home Arts contests at the fair.

• If you have a flair to create a tablesetting that would rival Sandra Lee’s tablescapes, then the Tablesetting Contest at the fair may be for you. Those interested in registering may do so from July 16 to Aug. 15 (by 10 p.m.). Entries are processed in order of arrival, and will not be accepted before July 16.

• The array of quilt colors creates a breathtaking kaleidoscope when you enter the Home Arts Department at the fair each year. Quilters are encouraged to speed up their projects in time to enter their works of art in the competition. Two different online registration deadlines have been announced for five different quilt competitions.

• The ever-popular Quilt Challenge, with a theme of “Secrets of the Rainforest” has an online registration of Aug. 11. Online registration will be accepted until Aug. 22 at 10 p.m.
