Between Sept. 15 and Sept. 21, the Valley Regional Fire Authority responded to the following calls for service, among many others.
Sept. 15
Service call: 10:04 a.m. (Bonney Lake). Firefighters responding to reports of a deer trapped between two fences arrived to find the animal with its body stuck between the fences, and its hooves caught in a retaining wall. Using the Jaws of Life to spread the fence and pry the bars to move ecology blocks, crews freed the deer, whereupon it trotted off into the woods.
Sept. 16
Brush fire: 5:30 p.m. (Auburn). Firefighters along with Mountain View Fire and Rescue and Puget Sound RFA responded to a brush fire near Auburn-Black Diamond Road, and they all worked together to extinguish the fire limiting it to about half an acre.
Sept. 17
Aid call: 7:59 p.m. (Auburn). Firefighters evaluated a woman who was complaining of high blood pressure and generalized pain, and a private ambulance transported her to a local emergency department for further care.
Aid call: 11:09 a.m. (Lakeland Hills). A vehicle carrying an older gentleman who had injured his knee at home approached the fire station. Firefighters treated the man, splinted his leg, and a private ambulance transported him to St. Francis Hospital for further care.
Sept. 18
Aid call: 11:52 a.m. (Auburn). Firefighters and King County Medic One paramedics evaluated and stabilized a man who was complaining of shortness of breath and weakness, and then King County Medic One transported him to MultiCare Auburn Medical Center.
Sept. 19
Aid call: 8:15 a.m. (Auburn). Firefighters responded to a woman who was hallucinating and expressing concerns about people she believed were inside pf her apartment. Firefighters confirmed the residence was clear and arranged for her transportation to MultiCare Auburn Medical Center for evaluation.
Sept. 20
Traffic accident: 4:29 p.m. (Auburn). Firefighters responded to a two-vehicle collision on Auburn Way South, where one vehicle had turned in front of another, blocking the intersection and shearing a fire hydrant from its base. Three people sustained minor injuries. Auburn Police remained on scene to investigate, and the City of Auburn’s water department was notified about the damaged hydrant.
