Deputies investigate second homicide at same Auburn property

One man was killed in a shooting on Feb. 20 at a home near Auburn where another homicide took place in late 2022.

According to the King County Sheriff’s Office, just after 3 a.m. Feb. 20, a 911 call alerted deputies to a fight and shooting at a home in the 30800 block of Military Road South. When deputies responded to the residence, they found the front door open.

Deputies subsequently discovered a man who appeared to have been shot to death, said Mark Corbett, public information officer for the King County Sheriff’s Department.

The King County Medical Examiner has not released the man’s name. Details, including a possibly wounded second man, are murky at this point.

“There was an early report that someone had broken in,” Corbett said. “My understanding is that detectives are trying to sort through different accounts and information. As far as the number of victims, I am only aware of one victim being shot on the 20th. As for the details of what occurred, this is information we are not releasing at this time due to the case being active. We do not want to compromise an active investigation.”

This is not the first time the KCSO has been called to the property.

On Nov. 17, 2022, deputies responding to that location regarding a homicide-arson investigation found a body in a burnt trailer. In that incident, the KCSO believed the victim had been killed at the scene, and that someone set the fire afterward to destroy evidence. A propane tank inside the trailer burst during the fire

The Feb. 20 case and the 2022 case are active.
