Elderly female scammed out of $5,000 | Auburn police blotter

Replica firearm: At 10:12 a.m. Aug. 12 in the 600 block of 37th Street Northwest, there was a report that a replica firearm was found.

Drug possession: At 8:49 p.m. Aug. 12 in the 900 block of Auburn Way South, there was a report that a male was arrested for drug possession.

Juvenile female: At 7:28 p.m. Aug 12 in the 31000 block of 104th Avenue Southeast, there was a report that a juvenile female was arrested for assault.

Criminal impersonation: At 12:40 p.m. Aug. 13 in the 600 block of 27th Street Southeast, there was a report of a theft and criminal impersonation.

Arson investigation: At 6:17 p.m. Aug. 13 in the 32000 block of 51st Avenue South, there was a report of an arson investigation.

Motorhome stolen: At 6:42 p.m. Aug. 13 in the 2300 block of Ron Crockett Drive Northwest, there was a report that a motorhome was stolen.

Elderly female scammed out of $5,000: At 12:06 p.m. Aug. 14 in the 300 block of East Main Street, the police department received a report in the form of a typed letter from a woman who described how she was scammed out of $5,000. The letter said that the woman received an email from what she believed was PayPal stating that she had an unknown charge of $1,289. The woman called the phone number in the email and spoke to a man named Christopher, who told her that he accidentally refunded her $50,000, and he needed her to send it back or he would lose his job. The woman then attempted to send the money through BECU, but the transaction failed. At the direction of Christopher, she then sent him $5,000 through Bitcoin, but she got suspicious and did not send more money. Christopher then began threatening her and accessed her computer and deleted a book she had been writing. The phone number the woman called was untraceable, and Bitcoin is nonrefundable. Case is inactive pending any new investigative leads.

Commercial burglary: At 10:12 a.m. Aug. 14 in the 3600 block of Auburn Way North, there was a report of a commercial burglary.

Stolen vehicle eluding: At 1:57 p.m. Aug. 14 in the 300 block of 15th Street Northeast, there was a report that a stolen vehicle eluded from a traffic stop. Other reported offenses were traffic collision and hit and run.

Vehicle theft arrest: At 7:25 a.m. Aug. 16 in the 13000 block of Southeast 309th Place, there was a report that a man was arrested for auto theft.

Sexual offense: At 8:19 a.m. Aug. 17 in the 12000 block of Southeast 312th Street, there was a report of a sexual offense.

Driving under the influence: At 11:21 p.m. Aug 18 in the 1400 block of D Street Northeast, there was a report that a female was arrested for DUI.
