Between Aug. 11 and Aug. 17, the

Valley Regional Fire Authority responded to 172 calls for service, among them the following:

AUG. 11

Truck accident/CPR: 4:52 p.m., (Auburn). VRFA units responded to a report of a truck that had veered off of the road and struck a concrete wall. Finding the driver in cardiac arrest, VRFA personnel along with King County Medic 6, performed CPR and patient care, restoring the man’s heart beat. Medic 6 transported the man to Auburn Regional Medical Center.

AUG. 12

Kid on bike with cell phone vs. vehicle: 12:45 p.m., (Auburn). VRFA units responded to a bicycle vs. car accident. On arrival, VRFA personnel determined that a boy had been talking on his cell phone and ridden his bicycle into a stopped car. The boy sustained a laceration to his left elbow. He was treated for his injuries and left in the care of a family member.

AUG. 13

Aid call: 1:09 p.m., (Pacific). Engine 38 responded to injuries from an industrial accident and found a man who had cut his arm with a radial arm saw. A co-worker applied direct pressure to help control the bleeding. The crew bandaged the injury and American Medical Response (AMR) transported the man to ARMC.

AUG. 14

Labor pains: 5:30 p.m., (Auburn). Aid 32 responded to a woman who was experiencing labor pains with her first baby. Her water had broken and her contractions were about five minutes apart. An examination determined that the soon-to-be mom could be transported by ambulance to Valley Medical Center to be seen by her obstetrician.

AUG. 15

Gunshot to the chest: 11:38 p.m., (Auburn). VRFA personnel responded to a young woman with a gunshot wound to the chest. The woman was treated at the scene and King County Medic 6 transported her to Harborview Medical Center.

AUG. 16

Water rescue response: 7:03 p.m., (Assist KCFD#44). VRFA water rescue personnel responded to a reported child who was missing after going into the river near Flaming Geyser State Park. Investigation found the child out of the water, safe and sound.

AUG. 17

Low Blood Sugar: 6 p.m., (Auburn). VRFA personnel responded to a woman experiencing problems from low blood sugar. The woman was home alone and called her sister, who in-turn called 911 for assistance. Emergency personnel used a glucometer and found the patient’s blood sugar was low. VRFA personnel got the patient a soda, made some peanut butter crackers, and stayed until the patient’s sister arrived.
