The Valley Regional Fire Authority responded to 222 calls between June 30 and July 6, among them the following:
JUNE 30
Structure Fire: 5:15 p.m., (Pacific). VRFA units responding to a report of a structure fire at 205 Elise Lane found heavy smoke and fire conditions with a large portion of the back of the house and the upstairs ablaze. Crews started an aggressive attack inside the building to support a search of the residence, which managed to control the conflagration completely, despite significant fire in the attic. The primary search crew found a dog and several fish and hustled the critters out of there. No one was home at the time and nobody was hurt. The owner of the Pacific Dairy Queen donated items to cool firefighters down as it was more than 90 degrees outside. The South King Fire Investigation Task Force is investigating.
JULY 1
Residential Fire: 11:58 p.m., (Auburn). VRFA units responded to a reported residential fire in the 2100 block of Ginkgo Street Southeast and found heavy smoke from a single-story residential structure. The residents had tried to put out the fire themselves before getting out. Crews set to work to confine and knock down the fire. A primary search found two cats: one cat was revived by VRFA personnel; efforts on the second cat were unsuccessful. The Red Cross helped the four displaced occupants find temporary housing. The South King Fire Investigation Task Force is investigating.
JULY 2
Aid Call: 7:19 p.m., (Algona). VRFA units and Medic 6, along with Algona Police, responded to a report of a collapsed male with CPR in progress. VRFA Engine-38 arrived and continued CPR while Medic-6 personnel performed Advanced Life Support measures. Regretfully, VRFA personnel and Medic 6 were unable to resuscitate the patient and ceased their efforts approximately 50 minutes later. The fire chaplain was requested and arrived to assist.
JULY 3
Aid Call: 11:02 a.m., (Lea Hill). Eng-34 responding to a report of an elderly woman who had fallen at home found the woman lying on the floor with no apparent injuries. The woman claimed she had become dizzy and slumped to the floor. VRFA personnel advised her to seek medical attention for the drop in her blood pressure, but she refused, so they left her with her daughter.
JULY 5
Stabbing: 12:04 a.m., (Auburn). VRFA units responded to a report of a stabbing. On location, units found a 20-year-old woman with a 2-inch-deep puncture wound below her right breast. She was transported in stable condition by King County Medic 6 to Auburn Regional Medical Center for care.
JULY 6
Aid Call: 12:10 a.m., (Auburn). Engine 38 and Medic 6 responded to a report of a woman with chest pain. Assessment indicated she may have been suffering from an anxiety issue. The patient was left at home with instructions to see a physician should symptoms recur.
