The Valley Regional Fire Authority responded to 146 calls for service between Feb. 16 and 22, among them the following:
Feb. 17
Stove fire: 2:34 p.m., (Auburn). Valley Com dispatched fire fighters to a house fire at 3033 M St S.E. Station 32 personnel arrived first and saw only light smoke in the open front door. The occupant of the house said that the fire had started on the stove while he was cooking, quickly filling the house with smoke. The fire spread to the cabinets above the stove, but the occupant snuffed it with a garden hose. Engine 32 helped the homeowner clear the smoke.
Fuel spill: 5 p.m., (Pacific). Engine 38 investigated a fuel spill that Pierce County road crews had discovered while working in the area. Firefighters found a diesel fuel spill, which may have leaked from a vehicle that had parked at the location earlier. Firefighters contained the fuel that had not yet reached the storm drain and contacted the Department of Ecology spill response team to mop up the remaining fuel.
Feb. 18
Medical aid call: (Lea Hill). Personnel responded to Green River Community College to help a 25-year-old female college student complaining of dizziness. The patient said a medicine ball had struck her the day before and she had not felt right since. An ambulance transported the woman to Auburn Regional Medical Center for further evaluation.
Feb. 19
Aid call: 12:08 p.m., (Auburn). Aid 31 responded to a report of a woman who had fallen in the 900 block of 22nd Street Northeast. Firefighters found a 50 year-old woman complaining of left arm pain and right knee pain after she had fallen from a standing position. The woman has an extensive medical history. Medics examined her, treated her for wounds, and an ambulance transported her to St. Francis Hospital in Federal Way.
Feb. 20
Aid call: 11:16 a.m., (Auburn). Valley Com dispatched medics to a report of a child having difficulty breathing. Aid 32 personnel found a 4-year-old who was breathing and acting normally. VRFA personnel became concerned for the welfare of the child because of the mother’s behavior and the living conditions encountered in the home. Auburn Police placed the child in protective custody pending the arrival of a Child Protective Services case worker.
Motorcycle crash: 2:40 p.m., (Lea Hill). Firefighters responded to several 911 reports of a motorcycle accident in the area of Southeast 304th Street and Green River Road Southeast. Personnel found a non-injured motorcyclist who stated that he had taken a curve too fast and slid off the roadway. The patient was left with Auburn police for investigation of the accident.
Feb. 21
Vehicle collision: 7:50 p.m., (Pacific). Engine 38 responded to the 300 block of Chicago Boulevard South for a two-vehicle collision. Personnel found two cars involved in a T-Bone style accident. One woman was complaining of chest pain owing to seat belt contusions as well as neck and back pain. An ambulance transported her to Auburn Regional Medical Center. The other driver was not injured and Pacific Police arrested him or her on suspicion of DUI.
