Fire & rescue blotter | July 3

The Valley Regional Fire Authority responded to 171 calls for service between June 22 and June 28, among them the following:

June 22

Service call: 11:33 a.m., (Auburn). Firefighters responding to a sprinkler alarm at the 600 block of C Street Southwest found that the owners of a super market had tried to dry the floors with a heating unit, activating the sprinkler system and flooding the west side of the market. Firefighters helped move product and squeegee the floors.

June 23

Aid call: 6:45 p.m., (Pacific). Firefighters responding to a person who had fallen from a moving vehicle found him or her conscious with multiple abrasion wounds from the fall. Firefighters provided the person with wound care, neck and spinal stabilization and an Aid Unit transported him or her to Auburn Regional Medical Center.

June 24

Aid call: 4:16 p.m., (Auburn). Valley Com dispatched firefighters to help a young man who had been shot in the abdomen with a BB gun earlier in the day. The boy’s father took him to a medical clinic for treatment, but the BB was lodged close to the spine so the boy needed to get to a hospital on the double for surgery. Firefighters helped Medic 6 treat the boy, and Medic 6 transported him to Mary Bridge Medical Center.

June 25

Fire: 2:33 p.m., (Lakeland Hills, Auburn). Valley Com dispatched firefighters to a condominium fire. What firefighters found was a cooking fire that the occupant and a neighbor had already snuffed out. A light haze of smoke hung in the air, but that was all. Firefighters used a fan to remove the smoke. The smoke detectors lacked batteries and weren’t working. Firefighters told the owner and her son to replace the batteries. Investigators determined that inattentive cooking caused the fire.

June 27

Cuts: 8:10 p.m., (Auburn). Firefighters responding to a man with alcohol on his breath found a guy in handcuffs sitting on a bench with Auburn police detaining him. The man had fallen through a plate glass window and cut himself up pretty good, but he was resisting treatment and was deemed a danger to himself. The man was restrained on the American Medical Response gurney and transported to Auburn Regional Medical Center.

June 28

Dive call: 4:29 p.m., (Des Moines). Valley Com dispatched VRFA water rescue technicians to help South King Fire & Rescue for a possible drowning in the 28200 block of Redondo Beach Drive South. Fellow recreational divers had brought one person ashore and CPR was in progress. Word was that another diver was missing, but in fact all divers had made it out of the water.
