The Valley Regional Fire Authority responded to 159 calls for service between March 9 and March 15, among them the following:
March 9
Aid Call: 7:46 p.m., (Pacific). Firefighters helping the Pacific Police Department performed a patient exam, determined the person had died and turned the scene over to police.
March 10
Dive Call: 12:15 p.m., (Kent). VRFA Water Rescue Technicians, along with the Duty Battalion Chief, responded with Kent and Renton Fire Department units to the Green River in Kent near South 212th Street for a vehicle in the water. VRFA divers entered the river, confirmed the vehicle was unoccupied and secured it with a tow strap so a wrecker could pull it out. Police determined that the vehicle had been stolen and used to commit a felony last week in Tacoma.
March 11
Vehicle Fire: 4:52 p.m., (Auburn). Responding to a report of a vehicle fire, firefighters saw a smoldering car fire that the car’s owner had extinguished with a dry chemical extinguisher. Apparently, an electrical short under the dash caused the fire. Crews extinguished the fire and disconnected the battery.
March 12
CPR: 1:28 p.m., (Auburn). VRFA personnel and King County Medics responded to a report of an unconscious-unresponsive, middle-aged man. The man had no pulse or respirations, so emergency personnel started CPR. After several minutes of CPR and field drug therapy, firefighters and paramedics were able to regain a pulse on the patient. An ambulance transported him Auburn Regional Medical Center for further treatment and evaluation.
March 13
Motor vehicle collision: 10:49 a.m., (Auburn). Valley Com dispatched firefighters to a single-car collision on the 4th floor of Auburn Regional Medical Center’s parking garage. Firefighters contacted the car’s driver who told them that his foot slipped of the brake and onto the gas, causing the vehicle to strike the cement wall. Although the accident was significant enough to set off the car’s air bags, the driver was unhurt and no damage was done to the garage wall. After assessing the man, firefighters helped him to his doctor’s appointment.
March 14
Aid call: 3:42 a.m., (Auburn). Aid 32 responded to the Muckleshoot Casino where a woman was experiencing general weakness and confusion. The woman was diabetic but had not taken her prescribed medication so her blood sugar levels were high. An ambulance transported the woman to Auburn Regional Medical Center for treatment.
