The Valley Regional Fire Authority responded to 177 calls for service between April 27 and May 3:

April 27

Fall: 10:38 a.m., (Auburn). Firefighters responding to a report of an injured person found a woman who had tripped over an area rug while chasing her cat. Engine 32 found the woman in extreme pain and determined she had sustained a shoulder injury. Firefighters splinted the injury, and American Medical Response transported the woman to Auburn Regional Medical Center in stable condition.

April 28

Gunshot wound: 11:11 a.m., (Auburn). Valley Com dispatched Engine 32, Aid 32, Battalion 31, and Medic 6 to a shooting in a South Auburn alley. VRFA crews and King County Paramedics worked to resuscitate the wounded man, but he died. Police took over the scene.

April 30

Brush fire: 1 p.m., (Auburn). Firefighters responding to a report of a brush fire in the 100 block of West Valley Highway North found a large brush fire burning in grass and bamboo in the field between Highway 167 and West Valley Highway. Engines 31 and 38 needed 20 minutes and 1,000 gallons of water to fully snuff the fire. Fortunately, no buildings were scorched and nobody was hurt. Nobody knows what started the fire.

May 2

Service call: 11:53 a.m., (Auburn). Firefighters responded to the 900 block of 31st Street Northeast for a possible broken water main. Firefighters found a broken pipe in the grass median between the sidewalk and street that was shooting water approximately 20 feet in the air. Firefighters determined that no property damage was occurring and that a City of Auburn Water Department response was needed. The Water Department arrived to save the day.

May 3

Car accident: 6:46 p.m., (Pacific). Valley Com dispatched firefighters to a car accident at the intersection of Ellingson and Milwaukee Boulevard. Engine 38 arrived to find two cars blocking the road with Pacific Police already on location. Firefighters assessed the occupants of both vehicles and determined they had minor injuries. Firefighters advised them to seek further medical attention later if needed.
