Football’s future on display at NFL PP&K competition

While most football fans were firmly ensconced in their easy chairs watching the big boys of the National Football League play on television, young football fans from ages 8 to 15 found themselves outside at Auburn Memorial Stadium this past Sunday, participating in the NFL Punt, Pass and Kick competition.

Sponsored by the Auburn Parks, Arts and Recreation Department, the event pitted 33 athletes – 31 boys and two girls – in four age groups, vying to find who could punt, pass and kick the ball the longest and most accurately.

Winners of the event earned the right to move on to the sectional competition, to be conducted at 2 p.m., Oct. 25 at the Wilson Playfields in Kent.

Winners of the Auburn event were: Mason Yadon, boys 8 to 9; Logan Skoda, boys 10 to 11; Jaymee Ehlers, girls 10 to 11; Ikaika Nanaku, boys 12-13; Nicki Burkhauser, girls 12-13; and Edward Meisner, boys 14-15.
