Former teacher headed to jail after pleading guilty to sexual misconduct with student

Scott Allen Spies, a former teacher at the Auburn Adventist Academy, was sentenced Friday afternoon to 12 months in jail for having sexual contact with a 16-year-old female student at the school.

According to King Prosecutor’s Office Spokesman Dan Donohoe, Spies pleaded guilty last week to first-degree sexual misconduct with a minor. He was sentenced before Judge Jay White at the Norm Maleng Regional Justice Center.

The range was 6 to 12 months in jail, but Spies received 12 months with credit for 13 days served. White  denied a defense request for work release. The court also ordered that Spies remain in treatment for sexual deviancy. A restitution hearing will be scheduled for a later date.

Auburn Adventist Academy is on break, and no officials were available for comment.
