Game Farm Park braces for Petpalooza

The city of Auburn celebrates its second annual Petpalooza at Game Farm Park on Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. It’s a special event for pet lovers and a special day for their cherished pets.

The day starts off at 9:30 a.m. with the 3K Dog Trot Fun Run on a course that is flat, easy and enjoyable for all ages. Water will be available for both pets and their people. There is a $20 registration fee and participants can sign up at the Parks & Recreation Office at 910 Ninth St. SE or fax them at 253-931-4005.

In conjunction with the Dog Trot and Petpalooza, Messiah Lutheran Church will offer a Celebration and Blessing of Pets from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Dog Trot participants will receive priority.

The fun continues in the park with an animal-related entertainment stage, Skyhoundz Canine Disc Championships, a petting zoo, an agility area, the “Unleashed” pet contests, a mechanical bull and inflatable rides.

More than 70 vendors will display their products as well as food and drinks and give-aways.

Along with the pet parade, the Main Stage entertainment will feature Reptile Isle, Valentine Performing Pigs, The Parrot Lady and more surprises.

This free award-winning event will take place at the park, 3030 R St. SE in Auburn.

The Auburn Parks, Arts & Recreation Department was recognized by the Washington Festivals & Events Association for its efforts in coordinating the inaugural Petpalooza. Petpalooza picked up the gold medal award in the Community Service

Program category. The event also was awarded a gold medal award for T-shirt design and a silver medal award for Best Overall Promotional Campaign. These three awards are in addition to LERN’s international award for Best New Program, presented last November.
