Game Farm Park in Auburn has received $58,500 from a King County Parks’ Youth Sports Facilities Grant (YSFG) to restore four rundown tennis courts on the park property.

Auburn Parks, Arts and Recreation – in a joint project with Green River Community College – will restore the tennis courts back to top shape, which will include resurfacing, new nets, new fences and lighting. The project is scheduled to begin in May and conclude in June.

“Physical activity is such a vital aspect to the well-being of South King County’s citizens right now,” said King County Councilmember Pete von Reichbauer. “Thanks to the King County Parks’ Youth Sports Facilities Grant, restoration of these tennis courts has been made possible and will immediately add a critical dimension to this widely used park.”

Game Farm Park is one of the largest and most frequently-used community parks in Auburn. The park contains a wide variety of facilities for organized sports, activities, and special community events. The park sits on 53 acres plus about 86 acres of open space.

Auburn Parks, Arts and Rec was one of 13 recipients receiving a matching fund grant. King County Executive Dow Constantine said the matching fund grants totaling nearly $630,000 will give youth sports and recreation facilities a much-needed boost in the region.

“King County is committed to providing recreation opportunities for the youth of our communities,” Constantine said.

Grants range in size from $23,000 to $75,000, and overall the program will leverage more than $2 million for local parks and recreation projects this year through partnerships with cities, schools, and local community organizations, which must match the grant money.

“Partnering with community organizations greatly enhances the value of these grants,” Constantine said.
