Green River Community College sophomore golfer Broc Johnson continued his success on the links on Tuesday with a round of 8-under-par 63 at the Bigfoot Invitational at Indian Canyon Golf Course in Spokane.
Coming off a challenging first-round 75, Johnson charged back up the leaderboard to tie Spokane Community College’s Evan Omelia at 138, forcing a playoff. Omelia took home medallist honors on the first playoff hole when Johnson took his only bogey of the day.
Johnson’s 63 is the Todd Beamer High School graduate’s best ever round, topping an 8-under 64 he shot at Riverbend Golf Course in Kent during high school competition. Johnson was a two-time state 4A runner-up in high school.
He is also the defending Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges individual champion and will look to repeat this year at the championship tournament, which is May 19-20 in Walla Walla.
“This was a big confidence boost for me,” Johnson said. “It was super special. I knew I had to be aggressive to make birdies and make up ground. Hopefully this will continue as we move forward as a team toward the May championships.”
