Hawks part of Auburn skies

According to the 2010 Kent/Auburn Christmas Bird Count, conducted by the Rainier Audubon Society, red-tailed hawks are plentiful along the Valley Freeway corridor, with 89 noted in last year’s count.

The birds take advantage of the short-cut median and shoulder grass to sight prey, such as field rodents.

The Rainier Audubon Society begins its 2011 count on Jan. 1.
