Heavier Than Air Family Theatre delivers a tropical stage adventure in “Once On This Island” – an award winning musical with an infectious calypso-reggae beat.

Performances are at 7 p.m. Aug. 1, 2, with a 3 o’clock matinee on Aug. 2, at the Green River Community College Performing Arts Building, 12401 SE 320th St., Auburn.

This Caribbean fable tells the story of island peasants caught between a roiling sea and a sky filled with fickle gods, and a village girl who uses the power of love to bring hope to her people. Teaming with rhythm and a lesson in resilience, the local production features talented teens from Heavier Than Air’s summer musical theatre camp.

Since its Broadway debut in 1990, “Once On This Island” has garnered eight Tony nominations and won the 1995 Olivier Award for Best New Musical.
