Highline Community College President Jack Bermingham welcomed Chinese college presidents and administrators to campus on Oct. 27 and 28 as part of Vocational Education Leadership Training (VELT) program, an international training program for Chinese administrators.

The VELT Program gives Chinese administrators the opportunity to explore new strategies for inside and outside the classroom and develop relationships with local businesses.

The Chinese administrators spent two days on campus learning about the U.S. community college system and Highline’s leadership structure and management.

Speakers included Dr. Elizabeth Chen, member of the Washington State Board for Community and Technical Colleges and former Highline Board of Trustee, and Michael Allen, former Highline instructor and now associate vice president for International Programs at the American Association for Community Colleges (AACC) in Washington, D.C.

The VELT program is administered by the AACC and China Education Association for International Exchange and financed by the Chinese Ministry of Education. The five-year program will end in 2013 with approximately 250 participants.
