David C. Hindal already had cut a wide criminal swath across many states when he was caught burglarizing an Auburn-area home last year.

Last week a King County jury convicted Hindal, 43, of residential burglary. He will be sentenced Friday and could spend between 63 and 84 months in prison.

Alert residents called 911 after noticing Hindal in their neighbor’s backyard on April 8, 2012 while the neighbor and his family were on vacation in Eastern Washington. King County Sheriff’s deputies found Hindal hiding in a closet with a bag full of his intended victim’s property, including a laptop computer and a camcorder.

When a deputy asked his identity, Hindal replied, “Batman, Superman, Robin and the Joker.”

According to court records, Hindal committed this burglary only days after his release by the Department of Corrections.

Hindal’s criminal history is extensive. It includes a number of violent felonies from in and out of state, including assault 2 (2006) assault 3 (2002), grand theft (Florida 1996.

Deputy Robert Nishimura of the King County Sheriff’s Office investigated the case, with the help of DPA Ben Carr and attorney Chris Ledford. Ledford has been working with the PAO as a trial fellow from the Perkins Coie law firm under a Trial Fellowship Program wherein attorneys from local private law firms are “loaned” to the PAO to work as special DPAs for six weeks.
