King County Councilmember Pete von Reichbauer recently secured two retired county vanpool vans for Auburn Youth Resources. The donation is part of the the county’s annual retired van donation program.

The King County Council passed legislation transferring retired passenger vans to nonprofit organizations and local governments that meet the needs of low-income, elderly, disabled and young people in the community.

“As King County continues to make difficult decisions concerning the budget, this program becomes even more important and remains a lifeline to support our region’s hard-working, nonprofit organizations,” von Reichbauer said.

One of the vans will support AYR’s outreach department and will be used in the South King County area, gathering and transporting homeless or runaway youth. The second van will go to the Serverson House for daily transportation of youth to appointments.

“As the challenging economic times continue, the demand for our services increases,” said Jim Blanchard, AYR director. “The donation of these two vans will help our programs tremendously.”
