Lipstick on a pig

Let’s recap. The City Council wants to spend $18,000 to paint fake trees on a water tank in Lakeland Hills. The rational for spending the money to cut down real trees, only to paint fake trees, is as quoted by the council, “It’s not a lot of money, and we will give the residents something nice to look at.”

I would like to add a couple more points against spending the money. As an aspiring politician said a few years ago, “You can put lipstick on a pig, but it’s still a pig.” Paint the water tank whatever color you want to, put whatever design on it that you want, the fact is … it’s still a water tank. Also, has anyone asked the residents of that area if they even want fake trees painted on the tank? Probably not, since the councilmembers have not been up to see the water tank, and I seriously doubt that any of those residents have been pounding on the mayor’s door complaining of the tank. Specially since they purchased the house when the tank was already there.

Finally, as I was once again trying to look for this tank because, as I pointed out earlier, it’s not that easy to see since its hidden mostly by real trees, I noticed what appears to be a lovely cellphone tower within a stone’s throw of this water tank. So again, to address the ugliness of the water tank only to have this cellphone tower in the same back yard, is pointless and a waste of money. However, we all know the City is going to do what the City wants to do, no matter who or what anyone thinks.

The City is littered with bad decisions and history will continue to repeat itself. It’s lipstick on a pig, folks.
