A 30-year-old man sustained a serious gunshot wound to his back during a robbery attempt at the Cedar Point Apartments at 2922 M St. SE, Monday evening.

Auburn Police Commander Steve Stocker said in a press release that when officers responded to the scene at 7:45 p.m., the victim told them that a man he did not know had confronted him and asked for his “stuff.”

When the man responded that he did not have anything, the suspect pulled out a handgun and shot him. The man could not tell officers how the shooter got away, though he may have fled on foot.

Medics transported the victim to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, where he remained in serious condition as of late Tuesday afternoon. His name has not been released.

Detectives are investigating, Stocker said, but they don’t have much evidence to go on at the scene.

“We still do not have a good suspect description and have been unable to speak with the victim due to his condition,” Stocker said.
