Auburn Mayor Pete Lewis signed a statement of support at Monday’s City Council meeting pledging the following:
• Fully recognize, honor and enforce the Uniformed Services Employment and Re-Employment Rights Act.
• Managers and supervisors will have the tools they need to effectively manage those employees who serve in the Guard and Reserve.
• Will continually recognize and support our country’s service members and their families in peace, in crises and in war.
“This is the right thing to do and it‘s the right time to do it,” Lewis said. “Today supportive employers are critical to maintaining the strength and readiness of the nation’s National Guard and Reserve units.”
“Today more than ever, we must do everything we can to support our employees who are also serving our nation through the Guard and Reserve,” Lewis said.
“It is incumbent on every employer to give all the support possible to these brave service men and women. That is why I have signed an ESGR Statement of Support.”
The City of Auburn has many employees who are members of the National Guard and Reserve, several of whom are currently serving active duty tours.
