The City of Pacific honored blogger and community activist Jeanne Fancher as its first Citizen of the Year during its inaugural Citizens Appreciation Dinner last Saturday.
“Jeanne, with your dedication and the years of service you have given to the city, we’d like to give you this plaque, 2014 Pacific Citizen of the Year, for outstanding contributions and leadership in our community,” Mayor Leanne Guier said at the presentation.
Fancher, a fixture at City Council meetings, workshops and committee gatherings, reports on each proceeding and posts the video on her website (pacificcitysignal.tumblr.com/) for those who cannot attend.
“I think this is mostly for the blog and putting out notices for the past three years,” Fancher said of the award. “It’s the people in town who make it possible. You talk to your friends and pass on the word to other people to get involved. I hope this will motivate more people to get involved in the city, come to the council meetings and participate in things like Pacific Days and Pacific Partnerships. Thank you very much.”
In addition to her blog, Fancher is a frequent volunteer for city events and has organized voters forums to help educate Pacific residents prior to City Council and mayoral elections.
Guier hopes the Pacific Citizens of the Year award and appreciation dinner become annual events.
