Person stuck in elevator | Fire blotter

Between Feb. 21 and Feb. 28, the Valley Regional Fire Authority responded to 289 requests for service, among them the following:

Feb. 21

Cardiac arrest: 10:43 a.m. (Auburn). Firefighters responded to a woman in her 60s who had fallen and was disoriented. While crews were on scene, the woman went into cardiac arrest. Firefighters and paramedics got her heart started again and she was transported to MultiCare Auburn Medical Center with a pulse.

Accident: 10:35 p.m. (Auburn). VRFA units were dispatched to westbound Highway 18 to Southbound 167 for a vehicle accident. They arrived to find a vehicle that had traveled off the highway about 200 feet at a high rate of speed, rolling over several times. The vehicle sustained heavy damage, but the driver was relatively unhurt. The patient was extricated from the vehicle and treated for minor injuries. He was placed into custody by Washington State Patrol.

Feb. 22

Aid call: 11:49 a.m. (Auburn). Firefighters treated a man who had fainted and hit his head, and then transported him to MAMC for continued care.

Feb. 23

Service call: 4:18 p.m. (Auburn). Firefighters responded to a report of several plumbing appliances backing up with sewage into the first floor of an apartment complex. VRFA personnel contacted a plumber and the City of Auburn Sewer Department for the property manager and conducted salvage. The property was turned over to the property manager.

Feb. 24

Accident: 6:11 p.m. (Auburn). Firefighters responded to a man in his late 20s who had swerved off the road and struck a concrete signpost. They found him alert and stable. After personnel packaged the man, TriMed transported him to MAMC.

Feb. 25

Mutual aid house fire: 2:40 a.m. (Bonney Lake). Several VRFA units were dispatched as mutual aid with East Pierce Fire and Rescue for a house fire. Units arrived to help put the fire out, to search and to provide water supply and safety. The scene was left with East Pierce units.

Elevator rescue: 4:45 p.m. (Auburn). Firefighters and VRFA technical rescue specialists responded to a report of an occupant trapped inside an elevator. Upon arrival, the initial crew was able to open the outer door to confirm the elevator unit was fully stopped on the second floor. When technical rescue specialists arrived, they were able to manually activate the inner door release mechanism to open the door and evacuate the non-injured occupant.

Feb. 26

Aid call: 12:44 p.m. (Pacific). Firefighters evaluated a 6-year-old girl who had suffered a ground level fall in the play area at the Outlet Collection Mall and provided first aid. The girl’s parents transported her to St. Francis Hospital for further evaluation and possibly stitches for a small cut above her left eyebrow.
