Washington State Secretary of Transportation Lynn Peterson was the guest speaker at the monthly Good Eggs Breakfast in Auburn on Wednesday.
Peterson discussed the prospects of passing a transportation package during the special session of the state Legislature just called by Gov. Jay Inslee. She also addressed how to grow and maintain transportation infrastructure throughout the state, with special emphasis on the importance of the Puget Sound Gateway Project, which is WSDOT’s planned expansion of State Routes 167 and 509.
“Quality transportation infrastructure and efficient freight mobility are keys to economic growth and more jobs for our region. Today, this means completing SR 167 and SR 509,” said Pete von Reichbauer, King County Councilmember and breakfast program host. “I am thankful that Secretary Peterson recognizes the importance of this project to not only South King County, but the rest of Puget Sound and Washington State.
“I am also glad to see Secretary Peterson working hard on other projects to reduce traffic congestion and increase safety,” von Reichbauer added. “Her team did a phenomenal job handling the Skagit River Bridge collapse, and they have been diligent in working on ways to prevent similar catastrophes from re-occurring.”
In order to promote dialogue and encourage regional unity, von Reichbauer hosts a breakfast each month for local political, business,and education leaders.
