The City’s Environmental Services Division hosted its first Earth Day event last Saturday, calling on volunteers to remove invasive English Ivy from parts of the nine-acre West Hill Lake Natural Area, one of the most sensitive aquatic areas in Auburn.

Removing the ivy is necessary because it commonly overtakes non-maintained open spaces and chokes out native trees and shrubs that provide habit, cover and foraging opportunities for wildlife in urban areas.
