Auburn Police on Friday arrested the father and mother of a dead 4-month-old girl and booked them into the SCORE Jail for second-degree murder.

Police found the baby dead in a Garden Apartments unit in the 1400 block of 17th Street Southeast after responding to a 911 call at about 5:45 a.m. Thursday. Police and the Valley Regional Fire Authority were on the scene, where the child was pronounced dead.

A Medical Examiner’s Office autopsy performed on Friday found the baby extremely malnourished.

The girl’s 34-year-old father, her 24-year-old mother and their twin 2-year-old daughters were at the apartment at the time of the arrest. During an investigation, detectives took protective custody of the twins and turned them over to Child Protective Services. Detectives interviewed the parents and released them.

Auburn detectives obtained a search warrant for the apartment and served it late Thursday afternoon.

Police have not released the names of the parents, and no further information has been released at this time.

The investigation continues.
