The Auburn Police Department is offering Citizens Academy, a comprehensive 11-week program designed to introduce the public to the Auburn Police Department.

Topics will include patrol, investigations, narcotics, K-9 and a host of other police operations. The program will include a tour of the police dispatch center and the police academy.

The academy is open to any Auburn citizen 18 years or older.

Classes are free and will begin March 4 and conclude on May 13. Classes will meet at the Auburn Police Department every Wednesday between 6:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. There will be one Saturday session.

Space is limited and pre-registration is required. Applications are available at the Auburn Police Department and on the City of Auburn Web site at www.auburnwa.gov.

“The academy gives citizens an unvarnished look into the Police Department,” says Officer Andy Gould. “We want to show people how their money and resources are being used. We hope that participants will share what they have learned with their friends and neighbors and help others understand what the police department does and why we do it.”
