The Auburn Public Schools Foundation (APSF) invited the public to a preview of the new high school Thursday night.

The new Auburn High School, 711 E. Main St., opens for classes Sept. 3.

The preview served as an APSF fundraiser, designed for adults. The preview included building tours, AHS memorial bricks for purchase, raffles and appetizers.

In February 2013, Auburn voters passed a $110 million bond for the school project.

The new high school project is to be completed in three phases, according to the school district:

• Phase 1: February 2013-June 2014

The main classroom building, commons, kitchen and most of the career/technical education classrooms were completed. Students and staff will be starting the school year in the Phase 1 building.

The bus zone, staff parking lot and visitor parking lot also were completed during the phase.

• Phase 2: July 2014-July 2015

Includes construction of the physical education, sports medicine, horticulture, music and performing arts areas. It also will include renovation of the Performing Arts Center (PAC) and automotive technology building. The phase will be completed in August 2015.

During the 2014-15 school year, physical education, sports medicine, theater arts, horticulture and music will remain in a portion of the existing high school.

The PAC will be closed during the 2014-15 school year for renovation. The Theater at Mountainview and the Auburn Riverside Theater will be available to accommodate as many performances as possible.

During Phase 2, a portion of the existing building will be demolished.

Students will be attending classes in the new building, except for the programs noted above.

• Phase 3: July 2015-July 2016

Phase 3 will be final site improvements which will include new student and event parking lots, baseball and softball fields and tennis courts. The existing gymnasium and temporary classrooms will be demolished during the phase.

During Phase 3, all academic programs will be in the new building.

All students will be attending classes in the new building.
