Remembering the fallen, honoring those who serve in harm’s way

Community gathers to pay tribute to military men and women of today and yesterday at Mountain View Cemetery

The greater Auburn community paused to remember the fallen and honor those serving in the armed forces today during a Memorial Day ceremony at Mountain View Cemetery on Monday.

Tony Whetstine, post commander of VFW Post 1741, Mayor Nancy Backus and the Rev. Tim Klerekoper addressed the crowd.

Boy Scout Troops 401, 398 and Pack 64, the VFW and American Legion members participated in the processional. The Inter-tribal Warrior Society delivered a rifle salute.

The cemetery displayed American flags on the grounds, with each veteran’s gravesite decorated with small flags donated by Auburn’s VFW Post 1741.
