Rope rescue at White River | Fire blotter

From the Valley Regional Fire Authority.

Between July 14 and July 20, the Valley Regional Fire Authority responded to the following calls for service, among many others.

July 14

Rope rescue: 7:30 p.m. (Auburn). Firefighters helped a boy who had fallen over a small cliff, injured himself and got stuck on a ledge about 50 feet above the White River. Rescue crews established a rope system to safely reach and extricate the kid from the hillside, evaluated him and transported him to a local hospital for further care.

July 15

Passenger vehicle fire: 2:58 p.m. (Auburn). Firefighters responding to reports of a vehicle fire found a Ford F-150 pulled off to the street’s shoulder and fully involved in flames. Crews quickly stretched a hose line and extinguished the fire. A King County Sheriff’s Office deputy arrived and took over the scene once the fire was out.

July 16

Brush fire: 2:10 p.m. (Lea Hill). Firefighters responding to reports of a brush fire behind a home found light smoke visible from behind the house. Neighbors had acted quickly, using a garden hose and a fire extinguisher to knock down the flames. Firefighters used hand tools and a thermal imaging camera to extinguish all hot spots and complete the overhaul.

July 17

Aid call: 5:13 p.m. (Auburn). Firefighters performed CPR on a man who had been eating lunch when he choked and lost consciousness. King County Medic One paramedics and two VRFA firefighters transported him to MultiCare Auburn Medical Center.

July 18

Brush fire: 1:03 a.m. (Auburn). Firefighters responding to reports of a brush fire at Green River College found the fire and quickly extinguished it, preventing its further spread to nearby exposures. The cause of the fire was undetermined.

July 19

Accident: 4:21 p.m. (Auburn). Firefighters responding to a report of a single-vehicle into a power pole found a heavily damaged vehicle and one person who had self-extricated. Firefighters evaluated the victim and notified Puget Sound Energy of the damaged pole. A private ambulance transported the injured person to a local hospital for further evaluation.

July 20

Gas leak: 10:48 a.m. (Auburn). Firefighters responded to a residential gas leak caused by a shovel-damaged line during digging. Firefighters sheltered nearby residents in place until Puget Sound Energy arrived to secure and repair the leak.
