Volunteers from Wesley Homes of Lea Hill put in 600 hours of labor to cut, sew and press 350 pillowcases for the Auburn Valley YMCA drive for Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital.
The volunteer force celebrated the achievement and donated the pillowcases to the Y during its town hall meeting at Wesley Homes on March 13.
Donors used their imagination to sew, embroider and decorate pillows.
The Happy Hands Club will collect the pillowcases and deliver them to Mary Bridge.
Patients receive the pillowcases during treatment and can take them home.
According to program organizers, 900 children per month pick out their own pillowcase, and it becomes a comfort item whether they are in chemotherapy, having surgery, exams or tests.
The goal this year is 1,000 pillowcases.
The Y, at 1620 Perimeter Road, will continue to collect pillowcases until April 15.
