Soroptimists select food bank as fund recipient

Soroptimist International of Auburn selected the Auburn Food Bank as recipient of the “Fund a Need” program held in conjunction with the Feb. 7 Cupid’s Caper fundraising event.

As part of the event, guests were asked to “Fund a Need” by making contributions to a selected charity. The Auburn Food Bank was chosen because of its ever-increasing need for services in the community.

“Soroptimist is pleased to be able to support this worthy organization in their time of extraordinary need,” said Judi Roland, president of Soroptimist International of Auburn.

The food bank serves more than 100 families every day, with services including food, rent, utilities, and medical prescriptions. Founded in the 1930s in a neighborhood garage, the food Bank has continued to serve the community as a grassroots organization for more than 70 years.

“With our current increase in clients, the money raised in this event will be put to use immediately to help our community,” said Debbie Christian, executive director of the Auburn Food Bank.

The Cupid’s Caper, held at the Pioneer Park Pavilion in Puyallup, was themed “Cupid in the Klondike” in honor of the 100th anniversary of the Klondike gold rush. It featured food by Three Chicks Catering, dancing with music by the Murphtones, and a wide variety of silent and live auction items.

Primary sponsors of this year’s event were Auburn Regional Medical Center, Alpert International, and Nadine Toles State Farm Insurance.
