Kathy and Joe Mahoney, owners of the Sports Page Tavern, will hold a raffle and silent auction from 6-9 p.m. today at the tavern at 2802 Auburn Way. N., to raise money for the family of Pierce County Deputy Kent Mundell.

Mundell was fatally shot Dec. 21 while responding to a domestic violence call.

Kathy Mahoney said she and Joe were motivated by a desire “to do something” for local officers who’ve lost their lives in the line of duty, beginning with the killing of four Lakewood officers in November.

Originally the couple had planned to do something for the families of the Lakewood officers, but the Lakewood police department told them it would like all funds to go to Mundell’s family instead.

“According to the Lakewood Police department, all the families and children of the four officers have been taken care of quite well, but there hasn’t been a lot that’s happened for Kent Mundell,” Kathy Mahoney said.

Members of the community can help in three ways: by attending the auction; by making a donation to the fundraising event in any amount; or by donating something to the auction that others will want to bid on at the event and help raise funds for donation.

Raffle items may be sent to The Sports Page, 2802 Auburn Way N., Auburn WA 98002 or brought directly to the tavern any time. People also may call 253-732-9818 and arrange for the donation to be picked up.

The names of all donors will be listed in a letter attached to the final check, to be hand delivered to the Lakewood Police Department and the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department. The raffle and silent auction will include music and appetizers.
