Strong winds cause power outages in Auburn

High winds on Sunday afternoon dropped branches and vegetation onto Puget Sound Energy's power lines, knocking out power for hours to 7,000 to 7,500 of its customers in the Auburn area and leaving a significant swath of downtown in the dark.

High winds on Sunday afternoon dropped branches and vegetation onto Puget Sound Energy’s power lines, knocking out power for hours to 7,000 to 7,500 of its customers in the Auburn area and leaving a significant swath of downtown in the dark.

City officials said Monday that the greatest concentration of problems were in the area around Les Gove Park, where at the height of the outage 5,200 people were reported to be in the dark and cold.

As of Monday afternoon, six customers in the Auburn/Black Diamond Road area were reported to be still without power.
