Secretary of State Kim Wyman announced Wednesday that the annual Student Mock Election is open from now until Nov. 5.

The Mock Election is a non-partisan educational event that teaches youth how to become informed voters. Students vote on real ballot measures and issues, and on real paper just like adult voters throughout Washington. Ballots and tabulation sheets are available for download and printing at Vote.wa.gov/MockElection.

Other free resources available online include “I Voted” stickers to be ordered by Oct. 28, a print-friendly Voter’s Pamphlet, and the curriculum book “Teaching Elections in Washington State.”

“Voting is one of the greatest opportunities to make a difference in an individual’s community,” said Wyman. “Having a chance to learn about the importance of the election process at an early age is a critical step to making civic engagement a lifelong habit.”

Legislation went into effect this year that allows 16- and 17-year-old Washington citizens to enroll as Future Voters, which will automatically add them to the voter registration database upon turning 18.
