Suspicious package forces evacuation of Pacific City Hall; donated clothes found in bag

Authorities found a suspicious package left on the front steps of Pacific City Hall this afternoon, forcing an evacuation of the building and deploying a Federal Way Police bomb disposal unit.

Authorities found a suspicious package left on the front steps of Pacific City Hall this afternoon, forcing an evacuation of the building and deploying a Federal Way Police bomb disposal unit.

The package was reported just after noon today, when a City Hall employee phoned 911.

The unit moved in and determined the package to be a reusable Waste Management grocery bag of clothes meant for donation. The building and surrounding streets have reopened.

City Hall staff and other personnel temporarily relocated to the Pacific Senior Center. The summer lunch program at the community center also was evacuated, as was Gui’s Market, located across from City Hall at the corner of Third Avenue Southwest and Milwaukee Boulevard South.

Pacific, Algona and Auburn police responded.
