Auburn’s Sarah Swartz, daughter of Esther and David Swartz, participated in the legislative page program in the Washington State House of Representatives the week of Feb. 1. She was sponsored by Rep. Skip Priest, R-Federal Way.

Sarah is a junior at Fife High School. During her week-long job as a page, Sarah’s duties included delivering documents to lawmakers and staff, as well as attending page school to learn about our form of government and the legislative process.

Each year, students from around the state apply to participate in the legislative page program. Students spend a week attending page school, learning the inner workings of state government and assisting legislators on the House floor.

To become a page, applicants must have a legislative sponsor, be between the ages of 14 and 16, and obtain written permission from their parents and school. For more information about the legislative page program, visit: www.leg.wa.gov/PageSchool/Pages/default.aspx.
