King County Councilmember Pete von Reichbauer hosted an identity theft town hall meeting Tuesday evening at Auburn’s Valhalla Elementary School.
The meeting brought together residents from South King County, as well as law enforcement officers and various stakeholders, to discuss identity theft prevention.
Featured speakers included King County Deputy Prosecutor Peter Lewicki and Rose Torgerson from the Washington Coalition of Crime Victim Advocates. They were joined by Detective Robin Ostrum, Capt. Greg Thomas and Major Brad Thompson from the King County Sheriff’s Office.
Speakers discussed the growing threat of identity theft and provided information on how to prevent it from happening. They also offered information about the resources and services available to those who have become victims of this growing crime.
During the meeting, Seadrunar Recycling was on site to provide free and secure disposal of unnecessary personal documents.
