Trooper emphasis: No serious injury or fatality collisions in King County over holiday weekend

The Washington State Patrol staffed an extra 15 Troopers in King County for Memorial Day weekend specifically targeting DUI and speed violators. The weekend emphasis was successful as there were no serious injury or fatality collisions on King County highways.

King County Troopers apprehended 66 impaired drivers and responded to 78 collisions, 19 being injury.

“To not have a serious injury or fatality collision during one of the busiest travel weekends of the year is outstanding,” said Capt. Steve Burns of the Washington State Patrol. “This just proves how hard our troopers work and how dedicated they are in making our roadways safer and reaching the agencies goal of Target Zero by 2030.”

On Saturday, nine troopers conducted an isolated 3½ hour (6:30 to 10 a.m.) emphasis southbound I-5 in Federal Way. During the morning emphasis troopers conducted 107 speed contacts, made two DUI. arrests, six drug arrests and recovered one occupied stolen vehicle.
