The annual Pacific Raceways fundraising event for Guide Dogs of America will be Friday, Saturday and Sunday (Aug. 20-22) at the drag strip near Auburn.

Tickets for the event are $5, with all proceeds going to the Guide Dogs group. The event is being sponsored by Machinists Union District Lodge 751, and tickets are on sale at all District 751 union halls around Puget Sound, including the Auburn Hall, at 201 A. St. SW.

The $5 tickets cover admission on Friday and Sunday. However, on Saturday, there will be a $10 surcharge for everyone 15 and older. That day is part of Pacific Raceway’s 50th anniversary celebration, and the racetrack is planning a special day of events, including an extra 32-car Funny Car competition, and evening racing with pro-modified and alcohol-fueled dragsters, leading up to a fireworks show at night.

The International Association of Machinists & Aerospace Workers is a major supporter of Guide Dogs of America, which provides trained seeing-eye dogs for people across the United States and Canada who are blind or have impaired vision.

Last year, District 751 raised more than $13,000 at its Pacific Raceways fundraiser, part of the nearly quarter-million dollars that the Seattle-based union raised for the charity in 2009.
