Volunteers recently came together to replace Yvonne Slaby’s worn front porch.

“Isn’t this wonderful?” Slaby said as workers put in a new 5-by-8-foot porch at her Pacific home on 3rd Avenue Southwest. “I really needed to have it done, but I couldn’t afford it.”

Slaby, a longtime volunteer, has lived in the house for 42 years.

Commercial Metals donated $500 to the project.

Frank Hatten joined Mayor Richard Hildreth and City Council President John C. Jones to lead the effort.
