The Valley Regional Fire Authority responded to 210 calls for service between Oct. 13 and 19, among them the following:
Oct. 13
Fire: 6:44 p.m., (Auburn). Responding to a commercial vehicle fire, firefighters yet blocks away could see a thick black column of smoke rising off what in moments turned out to be three semi-trucks fully involved in flames. The subsequent fire-snuffing effort required three fire engines with large amounts of water to bring the fire under control.
Oct. 14
Aid call: 10:40 a.m., (Lakeland Hills). After firefighters and King County Medic One helped a woman who was struggling to breathe, a private ambulance transported her to MultiCare Auburn Medical Center (MAMC).
Oct. 15
Aid call: 6:50 p.m., (Lea Hill). After firefighters examined an older woman who had fallen, a private ambulance transported her to MAMC.
Oct. 16
Hazardous material spill: 3:57 p.m., (Pacific). Firefighters hustling to a hazardous material spill found a large amount of an unknown type of product and a small spill. Firefighters called in a hazardous material team from the Kent Regional Fire Authority to investigate further. The team deemed the leak stable and confined it to the unit of origin until a clean-up team could respond.
Oct. 17
Fire alarm: 3:25 p.m.,(Lea Hill). Youth smoking in a hallway set off a fire alarm, summoning firefighters.
Oct. 18
Aid call: 11:50 a.m., (Auburn). Firefighters examined a woman who had fallen, and a private ambulance transported her to Valley Medical Center in stable condition.
Oct. 19
River rescue: 11:04 a.m., (Auburn). A man fishing in the Green River fell into the swift current and found himself unable to make it back to shore. Realizing that the man was on the opposite side of the river from themselves, VRFA swift water technicians got a boat out there and plucked him from the water, without injury.
