The Valley Regional Fire Authority responded to 188 calls for service between Sept. 10 and 16, among them the following:

Sept. 10

Oven fire: 4:30 p.m., (Auburn). When food cooking in an oven caught fire, firefighters responded, extinguished the fire and aired out the smoke-filled home.

Sept. 11

Aid Call: 7:55 p.m., (Lakeland Hills). An older woman who’d been complaining of a headache got help from firefighters and a ride in a private ambulance to Auburn Regional Medical Center.

Sept. 12

Water leak: 7 p.m., (Lea Hill). Firefighters helped two homeowners whose water valve had broken off inside a wall, secured water service to the building and helped the homeowners remove water from their domiciles.

Sept. 13

Illegal burn: 8:29 p.m., (Auburn). Firefighters responding to a complaint about an illegal burn advised the homeowner of the high fire danger his bon fire was posing to everyone around him. The homeowner listened and extinguished the fire.

Sept. 14

Aid call: 2:55 p.m., (South Auburn). Firefighters treated an older woman who’d been complaining of a cut to her head and a private ambulance transported her to ARMC in stable condition.

Sept. 15

Smoke investigation: 12:11 p.m., (Auburn). Responding to a 911 call and seeing a large, dark column of smoke, firefighters asked for additional resources. The source of the smoke turned out to be an outdoor homeless encampment where a box spring and mattress, grass, and trees were just then ablaze. Firefighters quickly snuffed out the fire.

Sept. 16

Aid call: 12:14 p.m., (Algona). Firefighters evaluated a woman in the throes of severe abdominal pain and a private ambulance transported her to ARMC.
