VRFA firefighters respond to garage fire in Auburn; occupants safely evacuated

Firefighters from the Valley Regional Fire Authority responded and a garage fire in Auburn early Friday morning.

The occupants of the adjoining home were safely evacuated. There were no injuries.

VRFA personnel were dispatched to a fully involved detached garage fire in the alley behind 106 E St. S.E. at 2:11 a.m.

Firefighters arrived to find the garage fully involved and fire spreading to the adjoining residence and automobile. Firefighters faced arcing electrical wires and explosions from the contents of the garage while working to contain the fire.

The occupants said the garage was used to house six chickens. The garage and contents were a total loss. The adjoining residence and car suffered approximately $20,000 in damage.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
