Crews from two Valley Regional Fire Authority fire engines and a ladder truck quickly extinguished two brush fires, approximately 200 yards apart, along the northbound lanes of Highway 167, south of 15th Street Southwest, this afternoon.
Multiple callers to 911 reported seeing more than one fire burning along the Valley Freeway just before 2 p.m. Initial reports were of three separate fires, but when firefighters arrived they found two fires burning approximately 200 yards apart.
One fire was located near the overpass at 1st Avenue North and was estimated at 150-by-150 feet. The second fire was located at milepost 13 and was approximately 75-by-75 feet. Both were burning in tall grass and weeds east of the roadway.
The smaller fire near milepost 13 was extinguished in 14 minutes and the larger one contained in 15 minutes, the VRFA said.
